I was disappointed by the quality of this DVD. One realizes immediately that it is a copy of a VHS on DVD! The same week of purchase, I saw this movie on a channel on pay TV where I could notice that the quality was very good and that, therefore, the problem of my DVD was not due to 'seniority in the film. Second adaptation of the novel to the screen, "The wizard of Oz" version of 1939 remains the only known. And for good reason : the careful production of Victor Fleming, its colourful decor and its special effects were successful, the interpretation memorable for Judy Garland, then 17-year-old, mi-child mi-ado to the troubling beauty, the songs are unforgettable such as "Over the Rainbow", "We're Off to See the Wizard" or "The Merry Old Land of Oz", the sequences cults as a Witch travelling on her broomstick to the music of Yip Harburg and Harold Arlen, or the horde of blue monkeys removing Dorothée make this film a small wonder... 1 is not intended to be spectacular. Don't expect any miracle. The restoration has been to eliminate the objectionable artifacts, and enhance the overall clarity of the different elements of the mix, whether it's voice, sound effects, or music. Result : a very good moment of cinema. And the prospect of a new open to see other films of the legendary director. Is it useful that I tell you the plot of the film? I don't think so. There are strong chances that you already know, or I you household the pleasure of discovery. What a result! Opera visual flamboyant that you sit at the bottom of the seat that you squeeze with the greater evil, a journey that may not end (because it went beyond life and death), a fiction which has nothing to envy to the documentary films about the Vietnam war. One enters the film following the strange lieutenant Willard (perfect Martin Sheen) on the trail of the monstrous colonel Kurtz (magnetic Marlon Brando), who has deserted from the american army when he had reached the peak of his command, in order to denounce the absurdity and the madness, murderous (he covers his account for better to put it in the scene). The more one follows the initiatory journey of Willard, the more we tremble in the light spread on the screen the part animal of the warrior, and more exactly the part animal warrior that each of us has. As for the music, which is omnipresent throughout the film, applauds the choices that are made. "The end" of the Doors closing to perfection, the culmination of the trip, the trips that we have been given to follow, there. A great shock film. Undoubtedly one of the best films of the Twentieth century.. Definitely one of the best movies of all time, masterfully directed by D. Lean. A grandiose vision of the desert and the men who inhabit it, in the context of the second world warmy daughter loves this old movie.
